A common fear is that "rocking the boat" with your bank will lead to a black mark on your credit report. Let's put this to bed once and for all.

## Complaints Are Not Defaults
Your credit file records your *payment history*. Did you pay on time? Did you miss a payment?
It does **not** record "Customer made a complaint."
Challenging the terms of an agreement is a consumer right. It is not an indicator of financial distress.

## Can They Close My Account?
Retaliatory account closures are strictly forbidden by the FCA. A lender cannot demand you repay your loan immediately just because you complained about the interest rate.

## The Only Risk
The only time your credit score could be affected is if you stop making payments *during* the dispute. **Do not do this.** Continue to pay your monthly installments as agreed. The refund will be paid separately; it is not usually deducted from future payments unless you ask for it to be.

## What If I Have Been Refused Car Finance?
You might ask: "I have been refused car finance - what can I do?" If you have experienced a finance refusal recently, it is important to know that claiming a refund on a previous, successful agreement will not negatively affect your standing or chances of approval. In fact, if you were refused car finance, it is usually due to credit score calculations, debt-to-income ratios, or recent hard searches. Reclaiming overpaid interest from a past, closed agreement simply retrieves money that you are rightfully owed, and cannot be used by lenders as a reason to refuse you credit in the future.

## Summary
Your credit score is safe. Claiming back unfair commission is a separate administrative process that sits completely outside the credit reference agencies' remit.
