Key Takeaways & Core Claims

  • £7.5bn in consumer redress is owed but almost nothing has been paid yet. Legal challenges may delay payouts into 2027. Learn why payments are delayed and why you must claim now.
  • The FCA motor finance redress scheme applies to agreements taken out between April 6, 2007, and November 1, 2024.
  • Generating a formal complaint letter directly to your lender secures your right to a refund and keeps 100% of the payout.

It is a confusing situation. You read about billions in liability for DCA complaints, but you haven't heard of anyone getting a refund yet. Why?

The Exception to the Rule

Before January 2024, a tiny handful of cases were settled. Most notably, the "Miss L vs Barclays" case saw a customer receive compensation. However, these were rare exceptions. Since the FCA stepped in, the doors have effectively closed temporarily.

The FCA Pause

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has officially "paused" the 8-week deadline for lenders to respond to DCA complaints.

  • Current Deadline: This pause is in effect until December 4, 2025.
  • Reason: To prevent inconsistent outcomes and to allow the courts to decide on key legal principles first.

Logging vs. Settling

Lenders are currently logging complaints. They will send you an acknowledgement letter saying "we have received your complaint."

They are not settling complaints. They are not sending cheques yet.

The "Provisions" Proof

Just because they aren't paying now doesn't mean they won't pay later. As we've reported, banks have set aside over £2 billion in provisions. The money is sitting there, waiting for the green light.

Timeline

  1. Now: Submit your complaint. Get it logged.
  2. Dec 2025: FCA expected to confirm the rules of the redress scheme.
  3. Mid-2026: The scheme launches and payouts begin.

Don't Wait

Don't let the delay stop you. If you don't complain, you won't get paid when the time comes.
